OUR MISSION, OUR PASSION

Big Sky Skijoring Association’s mission is to harness a piece of the cultural history and charm of a true Western event and offer it to the residents and visitors of Big Sky, Montana. Big Sky Skjioring Association is a 501 3(c) non-profit organization.

Big Sky Skijoring has been in existence since 2018 as a collaborative effort to bring a skijoring competition to Big Sky’s Town Center. But the sport has been around for centuries. Originating in Scandinavia, with reindeer and skis, skijoring culture is gaining significant momentum in the Western United States, specifically Steamboat Spring, around the close of World War II.

Fast forward to today, towns all over the Rocky Mountains will be hosting skijoring events in 2023, including some neighboring cities such as Driggs, Idaho; Pagosa Springs, Colorado; and Red Lodge, Montana. We couldn’t be more pleased to bring this historic and cultural event to our beautiful mountain town.
